Buyer practices

How Nexus Market works for buyers

Nexus launched in late 2023. This page explains what you actually deal with once you are inside: listing modes, escrow, wallets, and the order lifecycle. Onion addresses live on home and the mirrors page — not here.

Physical Mode and Digital Mode

Same market, two fulfillment tracks

Physical Mode

For goods that ship. Vendors post shipping options and regions; buyers paste delivery details into the order (usually encrypted with the vendor’s PGP key). Escrow stays locked until you finalize or a dispute settles.

Auto-finalize timers run longer on international routes. If a package is late, message the vendor first, then open a dispute before the timer hits zero.

Digital Mode

For accounts, files, and other non-shipped goods. Delivery usually happens in-market or via encrypted message. Escrow still applies unless a listing explicitly uses a different release rule — read the listing text before you pay.

Dual-mode browsing is one of the clearer UX choices Nexus made versus older markets that mixed everything into one undifferentiated catalog.

2-of-3 multisig escrow

How funds move without relying on a single party

  1. You place an order; payment is reserved in a multisig wallet.
  2. Three keys exist: yours, the vendor’s, and Nexus’s.
  3. Release needs any two signatures — typically buyer + vendor after delivery.
  4. In a dispute, Nexus can pair with one side after review.

Finalize Early (FE) releases funds before delivery. That removes escrow protection. Treat FE as optional and rare — only when you already trust that vendor’s history. More order questions sit in the FAQ.

Wallets and payments

BTC and XMR both work; privacy differs

Bitcoin (BTC)

Easy to acquire. On-chain history is public, so many buyers route through a personal wallet rather than depositing straight from an exchange. Confirmations usually take longer than Monero when fees are low.

Monero (XMR)

Preferred when you care about transaction privacy. Amounts and counterparts are obscured on the Monero chain. Wallet setup and purchase paths are covered in the Monero guide.

Deposit and withdraw screens live under Wallet after login. Never share 2FA codes or seed phrases with anyone claiming to be support.

Typical buyer flow

  1. Open Nexus through Tor using an address from home or mirrors.
  2. Register, enable 2FA, add a PGP key if you can.
  3. Deposit BTC or XMR; wait for confirmations.
  4. Pick Physical or Digital listings; encrypt shipping details when needed.
  5. Wait for shipment or digital delivery; finalize only when satisfied — or dispute in time.
